Elephant Room

Our team of student designers executed a comprehensive website redesign for the Elephant Room, prioritizing usability and consistent user experience to address the challenges of navigating an outdated and fragmented online presence for customers and stakeholders.

Finding the Problem.

We conducted 21 surveys of individuals aged 21+ to better understand our user base. Over half of the users primarily discover live events through social media and venue web searches. Our heuristic evaluation revealed inconsistent styles, accessibility and learnability issues, and a dated design on the original site. User tests confirmed many of these findings and highlighted concerns about navigation difficulties and repetitive information. With Austin's population growing by 9 people daily, it is crucial to find innovative ways to engage the online community seeking entertainment.

Our Solution.

Updating the website to a modern accessibility model is essential for increasing user traffic and attracting new customers. This will enhance public perception, drive foot traffic, and significantly boost revenue. Our approach is distinguished by our dedication to optimizing user experience and strengthening brand cohesion.

Our Process.

Our team developed lo-fi prototypes, which we iteratively tested and refined based on user feedback. Over a three-week period, we delivered a fully functional web and mobile redesign. I conducted user testing on both lo-fi and mid/high-fidelity prototypes using scripted and guerrilla methods to analyze user interactions. Adjustments were made throughout the process, including changes to text size, calendar dimensions, and image inclusion. Despite these changes, we maintained a 100% success rate in user tasks, prioritizing accessibility throughout the design process.

Reflections.

Redesigning the Elephant Room’s online presence was streamlined due to the availability of existing content. The focus was on reorganization, enhancing accessibility, and improving aesthetics.

Greater engagement with stakeholders could have provided more detailed design guidance. Additionally, time management challenges resulted in some planned iterations being left incomplete.

The project offered valuable insights into both our design processes and interpersonal communication skills. It also helped us identify our strengths and areas for growth as a team.
