Our project aimed to develop an app solution within three weeks. Initially focused on creating grocery lists from recipe data, our research and interviews revealed a more pressing issue: the waste of leftover or surplus ingredients.
Weekly meal planning often leads to wasted food, time, and money, as well as feelings of guilt and stress due to the challenges of managing recipes and leftovers. To address these issues and reduce food waste, we developed an app that generates recipes based on the ingredients and quantities users have at home.
During ideation, we needed to narrow our scope due to time constraints and an initial overabundance of features. We reassessed our approach, using the ‘I like, I wish, what if’ method to brainstorm and prioritize ideas. After several discussions, we decided to focus on AI-generated recipes based on user ingredients and preferences, which will be stored and accessed through the app's ‘cookbook’ feature.
Our team developed lo-fi prototypes, which underwent multiple rounds of user testing and iterative adjustments. Although our primary objective was to design a basic mid-fi prototype, we also successfully delivered a mid/high-fi mockup within the three-week timeframe.
